The Mediocre Middle - Too hard, too easy, just right???
Wednesday Sep 14, 2022
Wednesday Sep 14, 2022
The mediocre middle. What is it? How do we get there? Should we avoid it and if so why? And how? All these questions and so much more will be answered as Jeremy and I kick off Season 5 of the Food for Thought podcast with a look at how we workout in a way that might inadvertently lead us down the garden path where we don't actually want to go. How do we become aware of this? Who might we talk to to make sure we get where we DO want to go in terms of our physical training plan? And if you are leading PT in some capacity, how can you do it so that everyone benefits, not just a few? All this and more in today's episode! Hope you listen in.

We're baa-aaack! Hope you'll join the crew as Heather, Nicole, Jeremy and me, your host, Charissa McKay offer you up our selection of interesting topics that will hopefully push you out of your comfort zone...just a little.

The Power of Dialogue
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
When do you feel like a relationship is being negatively impacted because of an impasse you find yourself at? Why are you at an impasse? Is it because you have both dug in your heels and you refuse to budge? The proverbial line in the sand has been drawn? Why is there no progress, no middle ground, no resolution? Tune in to this final episode of Season 4 where Jeremy and I take a look at why we need dialogue. Why simply being two people talking may not be good enough to get to the middle ground and that resolution and what some of the, yes, sacrifices might be that will have to be made, by you young grasshopper, if you hope to find a way past whatever it is and move forward with whatever that relationship is - work, marriage, friendship. Therapy might still be necessary, but everyone can work on getting better at dialogue.

Respect and Making Room for Diversity and Inclusion
Wednesday Jun 08, 2022
Wednesday Jun 08, 2022
We talk a lot about respect in our workshops, as part of Respect in the CAF, when we talk about creating an environment in the classroom that will be conducive to learning, so please let's be respectful of one another, our opinions, viewpoints and stories that are shared. But what I think we might still be missing the mark on is the very real issue of not only respecting diversity, but taking it to the next level where we are also inclusive. In other words, what are we doing to not only try to create a diverse mix of people to shape our organization, but do what is necessary to make them feel like part of the team, and that we all belong not in spite of our differences but because of them. Tune in to listen to an engaging conversation where Heather shows us how to show up and be brave and take the next steps towards making room for inclusion.

What’s the Deal with ANGER?!?!
Wednesday May 25, 2022
Wednesday May 25, 2022
It might also have been aptly titled, 'why are you so angry?' but the fact is that anger is something that we have all experienced, in many quarters seems to be at an all time high and is something that a lot of people are uncomfortable with - either because they are on the receiving end of unjustified or ill-communicated anger, or are not super stoked about how it's the one emotion that they exhibit...maybe a bit too regularly. So on this episode we take a look at what it is, why it's not the evil that some would make it out to be, and how we can manage it in a way that it won't hurt our health or those of the people around us. Both those we love and those we may only mildly tolerate :)

Wednesday Apr 20, 2022
Wednesday Apr 20, 2022
If you think that taking care of yourself is selfish, then you need to listen to this episode and Nicole Emerson takes over the controls and we have a terrific conversation about self-care. We talk about what self-care is and isn't, how we can make it a priority, the role that work (and leadership) has in making self-care both more attainable and less needed (oh the irony). So listen and get some great take-aways (without any MSG) that will help you "fill your cup" so that you can continue to do what you need to do - for yourself AND for others.
